Diaries, 1831-1832, describing Taylor's voyage from New York to Liverpool, and travels in England, France and Italy. The diaries include some vivid descriptions of local social life, customs, and means of travel, as well as descriptions of the usual tourist sights. Taylor describes Liverpool, Manchester, and Birmingham, with a description of train travel between Liverpool and Manchester; a journey by coach between Liverpool and London via Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford; London, where he witnessed the coronation of William IV; Paris, Lyon, Avignon, Florence, Rome, where he saw the Pope celebrate Christmas Day Mass in St. Peter's, Naples, and Pompeii. He gives humorous descriptions of a typical English coachman, a fair in Oxford, and a quack doctor in Toulon.
